Independent Trading Co.
The streetwear-fit fleece brand. Premium hoodies and crewnecks. The go-to garment for capsule luxury programs.
Short version, straight from the floor.
Independent Trading Co. is the hoodie brand. Not a full apparel line.
Pricing SS4500 against Gildan 18500 on a wholesale sheet. These are different products at different price ceilings. The customer either wants a $60 retail hoodie or a $25 program hoodie. Do not confuse the two.
Ordering IND4000 for summer or shoulder-season events. Twelve-ounce fleece in warm weather is a returned order. Match the fabric weight to the wear season.
Embroidering across the kangaroo pocket seam. The seam ridge tears embroidery thread and puckers the fabric even with backing. Move the hoop up above the pocket line.
Skipping a wash care card on retail orders. The SS4500 pills faster with hot drying. A single line of aftercare on the tag or hang tag saves the brand from customer complaints in month three.
A production-floor definition, not a spec sheet.
Independent Trading Co. is the hoodie brand. Not a full apparel line. Not a tee-first vendor. A fleece specialist that owns the streetwear-fit hoodie category in a way no all-purpose blank house has matched. The SS4500 midweight pullover is the style number that anchors the brand and the reason a capsule label can build a hoodie drop around one SKU and know it will not embarrass them.
The fabric is where the brand earns its price. Ten-ounce blend on the SS4500, twelve-ounce on the IND4000 heavyweight, with a hand that reads worn-in without pretending. The fit is cut for retail. Drop shoulders, longer body, ribbing that holds shape after wash. On a six-foot buyer the sleeves land right. On a 5'6 buyer the small runs like a modern small, not a boys' XL. That is why streetwear labels default here and why Gildan 18500 does not compete on the retail floor.
For a print shop, Independent Trading presses cleanly at standard DTF settings on both the midweight and the heavyweight. The fabric surface is smooth enough that adhesion is first-press reliable. The kangaroo pocket seam is the one thing to watch. Pressing a design over the pocket line traps air under the transfer and pushes the film off the seam ridge. Center the design above the pocket or below the drawstring on chest hits. Do not straddle the seam.
Where Independent Trading loses is climate and budget. The IND4000 heavyweight is genuinely too heavy for warm-climate customers who will not wear it eight months of the year. The SS4500 is priced where a Gildan 18500 owns the budget-conscious school program buyer. Independent Trading does not fight for that customer. It sits at the top of the hoodie market and stays there.

Decoration compatibility
| Method | Rating |
|---|---|
| DTF Transfers | Excellent |
| Screen Print | Good |
| Embroidery | Excellent |
| Sublimation | Good |
| UV DTF | N/A |
- DTF Transfers
Smooth midweight fleece accepts DTF cleanly. Standard 315 degF settings work on both SS4500 and IND4000.
- Screen Print
Fleece surface texture affects fine detail. Plastisol works, waterbase can look flat.
- Embroidery
This is the favorite chest-hit substrate for streetwear embroidery. Use stabilizer under any hoop area near pocket seams.
- Sublimation
Only on EXP80PTZ and other poly-heavy tech styles. Do not attempt on SS4500.
- UV DTF
Apparel is not the substrate.
Common failure modes
- SS4500 pilling on sleeves after 20 wash cycles if the customer over-dries. Ship a wash-cold and tumble-low care card with retail orders.
- IND4000 heavyweight is too warm for spring or fall wear in most US markets. Match the SKU to the climate.
- Kangaroo pocket seam is where DTF chest hits fail. Center designs above or below the pocket line, not across it.
- Drawstring aglets on some runs are printed with the brand mark and abrade fast. This is not a QC issue, it is a wear pattern.
- Embroidery across the pocket seam pulls the seam thread if backing is thin. Use heavy cut-away for any pocket-adjacent hoops.

- DTF Transfers
SS4500 with DTF is the capsule hoodie program's core combination.
- Luxury Branding Package
SS4500 is the hoodie in the package. Neck-tag DTF and hang tag included.
- Custom Embroidery
The best fleece substrate for streetwear chest hits.
- Sports Teams (retail tier)
Team hoodie programs where retail-perceived value matters.
- Blank Hoodies Hub
Where SS4500 sits against Comfort Colors 1467 and Champion Reverse Weave.
When Independent Trading Co. is the wrong pick, and what to order instead.
The most valuable part of a product recommendation is the anti-recommendation. These are the briefs where Independent Trading Co. will fail the customer.
Budget program apparel
SS4500 at $18 wholesale does not compete with an 18500 at $6. If the customer is a middle school PTO buying 200 hoodies, do not sell them Independent Trading.

Independent Trading small still runs adult-small. Youth programs need actual youth sizing. Do not try to force it.
